Breakfast around the corner at TapaC24

c24On a regular basis we visit TapaC24. A great place for breakfast and lunch. We love the ‘Ous estrellats al gust’ with ‘bull negre’, the baby squid sandwich, the ‘Mojama’ with almonds and the always-fresh ‘Boquerones al limón’ accompanied by very good ´pa amb tomaquet’.

Apart from the fresh ingredients and impeccable, attentative service (something not to be taken for granted in Barcelona) this is one of the few places where one can sit down have a real breakfast and read the paper. The location is perfect, near our office, just off Passeig de Gracia on Calle Diputacion. The atmosphere during the day is calm and relaxed with a definite busy peek during lunchtime.

From 8 PM on, the place can get very crowded. Tapa C24 is run by Carlos Abellan, the chef who created Restaurant Comerç 24 in the Born. We prefer this place over its bigger brother in that it is more down to earth and less pretentious; i.e. better quality for your money.

The overall concept of slick tapas has become quite popular in the city with ‘Paco Meralgo’ on C/Muntaner, ‘Cata 1.81’ on C/Valencia or ‘Inopia’ run by Albert Adrià, the pastry chef at El Bulli on C/Tamarit as some other good examples.
